The dust motes danced in the late afternoon sunbeams slanting through the window of Zandile’s small room, illuminating the quiet hum of her life in Kwathema. The scent of simmering stew wafted from the kitchen below, a familiar comfort, yet today, a subtle dissonance vibrated beneath the surface of her contentment. He’d simply smiled, that charming, disarming smile, and said, "There was no one who mattered, Zandi. Until you." The answer was smooth, perfect even, and she’d let it be. But a tiny seed of curiosity had been sown, a seed that, watered by fleeting moments of his guardedness, was beginning to sprout.
