The air in Malakor’s ridiculously ostentatious study hung thick with the scent of aged parchment, petrified dragon snot, and something vaguely akin to despair. Dust motes, performing a silent ballet in the slivers of light that dared to pierce the gloom, seemed to mock the otherwise chaotic grandeur of the place. Mountains of forgotten tomes teetered precariously, their leather bindings cracked and whispering secrets of bygone eras. Gilded gargoyles leered from every conceivable surface, their stone eyes glinting with a malevolent amusement that felt entirely too familiar.

It was within this den of arcane disarray that Nibbles found himself, a tiny furry shadow navigating a landscape designed for beings of significantly larger stature. He’d squeezed through a gap in the crumbling masonry of a forgotten alcove, a feat that would have made a seasoned cat burglar weep with envy. Dr. Thorne, bless his perpetually exasperated soul, had been sketching a particularly bizarre trilobite fossil he’d unearthed in the library’s ancient archives (a surprisingly fruitful endeavor, given the circumstances), and Rexy was busy attempting to film a “survival vlog” with a decidedly uninterested Pterodactyl perched on her shoulder. Malakor, meanwhile, was off somewhere, presumably orchestrating a symphony of screeching raptors or teaching a Brachiosaurus to tap dance.

Nibbles, driven by a primal instinct for self-preservation and a burgeoning curiosity about the source of all this Cretaceous chaos, had decided a reconnaissance mission was in order. His tiny heart hammered a frantic rhythm against his ribs, a counterpoint to the distant rumble of what sounded suspiciously like a stampeding herd of Ankylosaurus. He scurried across a vast, intricately carved desk, his claws finding purchase on the worn wood. His whiskers twitched, sampling the air for any hint of danger, or, more importantly, potential snacks.
