Rexy's Moment
To escape, Rexy uses her charisma to distract a pack of raptors, convincing them she's the star of a new, exclusive show. Thorne is grudgingly impressed by her improvisation.
The midday sun, usually a pleasant warmth on Dr. Aris Thorne’s perpetually furrowed brow, now felt like a spotlight, intensely highlighting his growing exasperation. He huddled behind an overturned, surprisingly intact ice cream truck, its cheerful, faded advertisements a stark contrast to the primal fear churning in his gut. Beside him, Nibbles, the hamster in question, twitched his whiskers, a tiny furrow mirroring Thorne’s own.
“This is… sub-optimal,” Thorne muttered, adjusting his spectacles. “Utterly, unequivocally sub-optimal.” He peeked over the crumpled hood of the ice cream truck. A pack of velociraptors, their feathered bodies a blur of motion, were circling the abandoned mall parking lot. They moved with a chilling intelligence, their sickle claws tapping an unnerving rhythm on the cracked asphalt.
“Sub-optimal?” Rexy ‘The Roar’ Sterling’s voice, amplified by a surprisingly resilient microphone she’d somehow salvaged, boomed from the other side of the truck. “Darling, this is a five-alarm, glitter-bomb disaster! My hair is practically wilting, and I haven’t had a decent selfie in *hours*.” She struck a pose, even though her audience consisted solely of terrified civilians hiding behind overturned cars and, apparently, a very large, very hungry pack of dinosaurs.
