Chapter 10
Malakor's Monologue
Malakor reveals his motive: extreme boredom. He explains his sorcery, dismissing the heroes as mere inconveniences. Thorne attempts a scientific explanation, Rexy tries to get his autograph.
Malakor the Mildly Annoyed, resplendent in robes that shimmered with the iridescence of a thousand dying sunsets, gestured with a languid sweep of his hand. The colossal Tyrannosaurus Rex, which had been idly chewing on a lamppost like a particularly stubborn piece of jerky, paused, its reptilian eye blinking slowly. The air thrummed with an ancient, weary power, a power that felt less like a force of nature and more like a cosmic sigh.
"And so," Malakor intoned, his voice resonating with the theatricality of a seasoned West End performer whose agent had just informed him of a pay cut, "we arrive at this… juncture. You, Dr. Thorne, with your dust-covered theories and your utter lack of flair. You, Rexy Sterling, whose entire existence seems to be a desperate plea for validation via lens flare. And you, tiny furball, who possesses the uncanny ability to gnaw through reinforced concrete. A truly *inspired* ensemble, if I do say so myself."
Dr. Aris Thorne, his tweed jacket looking as rumpled and out of place as a fossil in a disco, scowled. "Juncture? You call unleashing Mesozoic monstrosities upon a civilization that barely comprehends indoor plumbing a 'juncture'? This isn't some whimsical experiment, sorcerer. This is… this is a catastrophic disruption of ecological balance!" He adjusted his spectacles, as if trying to bring the sheer absurdity of the situation into sharper focus. "The atmospheric conditions, the seismic activity… it all points to a highly improbable, yet undeniably occurring, temporal displacement coupled with a massive bio-genetic anomaly."
