They stumble upon a portal that seems to shimmer with familiarity, hinting at a way back. However, the allure of the unknown, and perhaps a touch of recklessness, pulls them towards another path.
The air crackled with an energy that felt both familiar and utterly alien. Leo, his heart thrumming a frantic rhythm against his ribs, squinted at the shimmering distortion ahead. It pulsed with a soft, inviting blue, a stark contrast to the angry reds and oranges of the portals that had so recently threatened to swallow them whole. Whisker, perched regally on his shoulder, let out a low, rumbling purr that vibrated against his ear.
“That one,” she murmured, her voice a silken whisper, “it feels… different.”
Leo nodded, a knot of hope and trepidation tightening in his chest. Different. That was exactly what it felt like. The other portals had thrashed and roared, their edges spitting sparks and their interiors churning with a destructive fury. This one, however, seemed to breathe a gentle, steady light. It was like seeing a familiar star in a sky that had been nothing but chaotic nebulae for weeks. Could it be? A way home? A stable exit from this endless, mind-bending journey?
