Captain Owl, perched on the edge of what used to be the water’s embrace, surveyed the desolate expanse of mud. It stretched out before them, a vast, shimmering canvas of despair under the unforgiving sun. The salty tang that usually kissed the air was replaced by a dry, earthy scent, thick with the desperation of stranded life. His crew, a motley collection of owls united by their shared loyalty and a thirst for adventure, stood with him, their feathers ruffled by the strange, silent wind that now swept across the barren seabed.
Gizmo, his single wing held at an awkward angle, let out a soft hoot of bewilderment. "It’s just… gone, Captain. Like a dream you can’t quite remember when you wake up." He kicked a clump of dried seaweed, sending it skittering across the cracked earth. "Where do you think it all went?"
Beaky, his keen ears swiveling, listened intently, not to Gizmo, but to the deeper, silent hum of the world. "It’s been taken," he declared, his voice a low murmur. "I can feel it. A sloshing… a great, restless sloshing. And it’s heading east, Captain. Towards the sunrise."
