Chapter 5 — The Secret of Blood
Adam takes his mother and sister through the portal to the wizard world. There, his mother Sarah reveals she was once a wizard who fled to protect him, and that his father was Kael, a prince and Samael's older brother, killed by enemies. Adam learns the full scope of the danger and decides to train with Eve, while a mysterious observer watches from the shadows.
Adam’s mother held Lily’s hand so tightly her knuckles were white. The apartment, their home for eighteen years, suddenly felt like a stranger’s house—cracked linoleum, a broken sofa, the scent of panic still hanging in the air. Gabriel stood by the door, his wings folded close, his golden eyes scanning the room as if expecting another attack.
“We cannot linger,” Gabriel said. “The rift they used left a trace. Others may follow.”
Adam nodded. He pulled the crystal from his pocket—a smooth, warm stone the size of his palm, the one Samael had given him. It pulsed faintly, as if alive. “This will open a door,” he said, but his voice faltered. He had used it to come here. He wasn’t sure if it could take more than one person.
