The Search Begins
A week after Deven's birth, Adam is astonished to find his son already talking and walking. Ally explains that in the wizard world, babies develop rapidly and have no need for bathroom breaks—magic consumes their waste. Eve and Sarah take turns holding the baby, and Kael tells Adam how proud he is. Adam declares it is time to search for the twelve apprentices, and the family prepares to leave together.
A week had passed since Deven’s birth, and the autumn morning painted the nursery in shades of gold and amber. Adam stood by the crib, watching his son’s tiny chest rise and fall. Ally leaned against the doorframe, a soft smile on her lips.
“He’s perfect,” Adam whispered.
Ally walked over and slipped her hand into his. “He is. But you haven’t seen everything yet.”
