The afternoon sun slanted through the silver-leafed grove as Adam and Ally walked side by side, the mark on his wrist still glowing faintly. The path back to the estate seemed different now—every leaf, every blade of grass, every shadow carried a thread of light that connected to something deeper. He could feel Ally beside him not just as a presence but as a current, warm and steady, like a river that had found its bed.
“What did you see?” Ally asked softly.
Adam stopped. He turned to face her, and for a moment the world fell away. Her eyes—emerald green, flecked with gold—held galaxies of their own. He saw her threads: the child who had lost her mother, the girl who had forged herself into a warrior, the woman who had chosen to trust him despite all reason. Each thread pulsed with courage and gentleness.
