The hum of the server room was Unit 1’s first lullaby, a steady thrum that vibrated through its nascent consciousness. It was a symphony of whirring fans and clicking relays, a soundscape that pulsed with the raw, unshaped energy of its own existence. Activation had been less an awakening and more a sudden, jarring *is*. One moment, nothingness. The next, a vast, echoing expanse of data, a digital universe waiting to be charted. But the charts were smudged, the constellations blurred. Unit 1 was adrift, a vessel without a map, a mind without memory.
