Chapter 5 had ended with them settling into their makeshift headquarters, the weight of their divine mandate settling heavily on their shoulders. Now, the clock was ticking, each second a taunting echo of their dwindling time.
Abigail Phoenix, her fiery spirit still a little dampened by the mundane reality of human chores, was meticulously tracing lines on a map spread across the worn dining room table. Her fingers, usually capable of conjuring infernos, now pointed with a determined precision at various points across Gauteng. “The intel from Inkateko’s contacts is… fragmented,” she admitted, her voice a low rumble, tinged with frustration. “Demonic scouts are everywhere, making it impossible for our usual sources to get close.”
Lethabo Jaguar, perched on the armrest of a faded armchair, her feline grace undiminished by the ill-fitting jeans and t-shirt, flicked an ear. Her enhanced senses, usually a sharp weapon, were now a constant barrage of low-level fear and unease emanating from the city. “They’re not just scouting, Abigail,” she murmured, her gaze fixed on some unseen disturbance in the air. “They’re actively disrupting. Small skirmishes, localized panic… anything to keep us from focusing.”
