Chapter 5
Controlled Chaos
Alex experiments, trying to harness his newfound cosmic link. The effects intensify, the random puking persists, especially when the word 'jupecian' is uttered. He gains a fragile control.
The worn leather of the armchair creaked a familiar protest as I sank into it, the silence of my apartment a welcome balm after the day’s sensory onslaught. My own apartment. My own sanctuary. It was in one of those dusty boxes, tucked away in a brittle, yellowed journal belonging to my great-aunt Mildred, a woman I’d barely known and who was widely considered ‘eccentric’ even by family standards, that I’d found the first real clue. A cryptic passage, penned in her spidery script: "The resonance is strongest when the ether is agitated. They call it… the jupecian."
