Broadcast Interrupted
Intern finds himself the unwilling subject of a broadcast, his life now the headline. The controlling organization reveals their hand, turning his delivery job into a desperate fight for survival.
The car door clicked shut, a sound far too final for a mere taxi ride. My heart hammered against my ribs like a trapped bird, each beat a desperate plea for escape. The polished interior, once a symbol of a discreet, lucrative gig, now felt like the inside of a gilded cage. Outside, the city lights blurred into streaks of neon, a dizzying kaleidoscope that mirrored the chaos in my head. This wasn't a simple drop-off. This was a trap.
"So, this is it then?" The voice, smooth as aged whiskey, slithered from the shadows behind me. It was the voice I'd heard in my ear, in my nightmares, the one that had orchestrated this entire elaborate charade. The Controller.
I swallowed, my throat dry. "What do you want?" My voice sounded reedy, pathetic. I, Intern, the investigator who’d outsmarted kingpins and navigated international espionage, was reduced to a whimpering passenger.
