Escape from the Studio
Intern attempts to escape the controlled environment of the radio station. This leads to a tense chase, with the organization's agents hot on his heels.
The air in the studio was thick, not with the usual scent of stale coffee and desperation, but with something metallic and sharp, like ozone before a storm. My fingers, slick with a nervous sweat I couldn't quite wipe away, still itched from the phantom feel of the steering wheel. The ‘driving gig’ had dissolved into a nightmare, a kaleidoscope of flashing lights, hushed urgency, and the chilling realization that I, Intern, the famous investigator masquerading as a radio host, was now the story. And the story, it seemed, was about to end. Badly.
My co-host, Anya, was a phantom in this new reality. Was she the architect of this betrayal, or another pawn in the Controller’s twisted game? Her eyes, usually pools of amused speculation, now held a dangerous glint, a flicker of something I couldn’t decipher. Desire? Or disdain? The line had blurred into an indistinguishable smudge, much like the city lights outside the reinforced windows of this sterile, inescapable broadcast booth.
"Intern," her voice, usually a melodic counterpoint to my own stammering attempts at humor, was a low hum, laced with an unfamiliar tension. "You're doing it again."
