Chapter 8
A Dangerous Alliance
Ronnie, wary but intrigued, offers Intern a piece of the puzzle. Their partnership is fragile, built on mutual suspicion and a shared enemy.
The rain had stopped hours ago, but the city still dripped. Every gargoyle, every fire escape, every forgotten windowpane seemed to weep onto the slick, gleaming asphalt below. Even from this distance, there was an air about her – a coiled energy, a wariness that resonated with my own. She moved with a fluid grace, but her eyes, when they flicked towards me, were sharp, assessing. I’d seen that look before, on the faces of people who knew how to navigate the city’s underbelly, the places where official maps ended and whispers began.
