Chapter 6
A Glimpse of Light
Eliot, inspired by Ivy's resilience, starts to notice small beauties in his surroundings. He actively seeks out Ivy, their friendship deepening with each shared experience.
The world, for Eliot, had always been painted in shades of grey. It wasn't a conscious choice, this monochromatic existence, but a pervasive fog that clung to his vision, blurring the sharp edges of joy and leaving only a dull ache in its wake. He’d grown accustomed to the muted tones, the absence of vibrancy, the quiet hum of his own desolation. But lately, a new hue had begun to bleed into his canvas, subtle at first, like a watercolor wash on damp paper, and it was all thanks to Ivy.
He found himself seeking her out, a magnetic pull he couldn't quite explain. It wasn't the vibrant energy that drew him, for that often felt overwhelming, a stark contrast to his own lethargy. It was something else, something in the way she navigated her world with such unwavering lightness, a quiet defiance against the shadows that seemed to swallow him whole. He’d catch himself listening for the rhythmic tap of her white cane on the pavement, his gaze drifting towards the sound, a silent sentinel in the periphery of her sunlit world.
Today, the air was thick with the scent of damp earth and the promise of a late afternoon sun. Ivy was at her usual spot by the old oak tree at the edge of the park, her head tilted upwards as if listening to its ancient secrets. Eliot hesitated, the familiar knot of anxiety tightening in his chest. He was a disruption, a smudge on her bright palette, and he always feared he would dim her light.
