The Weight of the World
Eliot opens up slightly about his struggles, perhaps prompted by Ivy's empathy. Ivy listens without judgment, her presence a steady anchor in his storm.
The afternoon sun, a benevolent warmth on Ivy’s face, painted the world in shades she could only imagine. She sat on the park bench, her fingers tracing the rough grain of the wood, listening to the distant symphony of children’s laughter and the rustling leaves that sounded like secrets being whispered. Beside her, Eliot was a silent shadow, his presence a heavy cloak in the otherwise bright expanse of the park. He hadn't spoken much since they’d met here, just the occasional mumbled reply, his voice a low hum of disinterest. Today, however, something felt different. The usual vibrant energy that pulsed from Ivy seemed to be gently nudging at the stillness that surrounded Eliot.
“It’s a lovely day, isn’t it?” Ivy’s voice was like a soft chime, cutting through the quiet. She tilted her head, as if trying to catch a fleeting scent on the breeze. “The air feels… sparkly. Like tiny diamonds are dancing all around us.”
Eliot offered a barely perceptible shrug, his gaze fixed on a patch of worn grass near his feet. “I guess,” he said, his voice flat. The word hung in the air, devoid of any genuine agreement.
