Silas Vane’s study was a place where shadows clung to velvet drapes and the air tasted of old parchment and desperation. Moonlight, thin and cold, painted stripes across his polished desk, illuminating a single, wilting rose in a crystal vase. He traced its drooping petals with a manicured finger, his gaze distant, lost in a memory he couldn’t quite escape. It wasn't the pursuit of eternal youth that truly fueled him, not entirely. It was the echo of a promise, a whispered vow made in the face of an irreversible loss. A loss he believed this luminous bloom, this ethereal miracle, could finally mend.

He turned from the window, his eyes, sharp and calculating, fixing on the holographic projection shimmering in the center of the room. It depicted the luminous flower, its light pulsing with an otherworldly energy, a beacon in the darkness of his ambition. Beside it, Elara’s garden, a vibrant tapestry of life, lay exposed, vulnerable.

“They can’t hide it forever,” he murmured, his voice a low growl. “Not from me.”
