Chapter 6
The Robotic Rustle
The trail leads to an abandoned workshop. Inside, they hear a faint, mechanical rustling and the sound of letters being sorted.
The trail of shiny, metallic scraps, each bearing a faint imprint of a letter, led Tara, Agnes, and Sam away from the usual cheerful bustle of Elm Street and towards the forgotten edges of town. The air grew quieter here, the cheerful chirping of sparrows replaced by the distant hum of unseen machinery. Sam, ever the pragmatic one, pointed with a gloved finger. "Looks like it's heading towards the old clockmaker's workshop. Been shut for years, that place."
The workshop stood stoically against the encroaching weeds, its windows dark and dusty like sleepy eyes. A faded sign, missing most of its letters, hung crookedly from a rusty hinge. Tara felt a familiar prickle of anticipation, the same thrill that always accompanied the beginning of a grand adventure. Agnes, her wise eyes scanning the weathered facade, adjusted her spectacles. "Curious. This place has always been rather... still."
As they approached the creaking wooden door, a faint sound reached their ears. It was a soft, rhythmic *clink-clink-clink*, like tiny metallic objects being gently nudged together. Then, a faint whirring, a delicate mechanical purr, followed by a distinct *rustle*, the sound of paper being shifted and sorted. It was a sound unlike any they had heard before, a sound that seemed to whisper of secrets and hidden activities.
