Chapter 6
Sweet Escape
Combining Drake's boldness and Lilly's logic, they devise a plan. They work together, overcome the final candy challenge, and find the exit, waking up with a renewed appreciation for their friendship and a craving for real sweets.
Drake’s impulsive leap had landed him in a sticky situation, quite literally. He’d bounced off a giant marshmallow and now found himself clinging to a licorice vine, dangling precariously over a river of molten chocolate. Below, the dark, glossy current swirled, promising a truly messy end. He’d been so sure his plan – just jump! – was the fastest way out. Now, the only thing he was fast at was regretting it. He could see Lilly, a tiny speck of pink and blue in the distance, near a mountain of rock candy, but she was too far away to hear his panicked calls.
“This is not good, Drake,” he muttered to himself, the vine groaning under his weight. “Not good at all.” He tried to swing himself towards a nearby lollipop tree, but the vine was too short. He dangled, a human candy cane about to fall into a chocolate fondue.
Meanwhile, Lilly, her heart thumping a frantic rhythm against her ribs, had finally reached the base of the rock candy mountain. Her methodical approach – carefully navigating the peppermint path, avoiding the treacherous caramel swamps – had gotten her here, but Drake was nowhere in sight. She’d seen him dart off, a blur of bright yellow, towards what looked like a giant gummy bear forest. Now, the silence where his boisterous laughter should have been was deafening. A knot of worry tightened in her stomach. She knew Drake, knew his tendency to rush headfirst into things, but she also knew his courage. She just hoped courage was enough.
