The sterile scent of ozone and something vaguely metallic tickled Jack’s nostrils as he found himself in a room that felt less like a laboratory and more like the inside of a meticulously crafted, sterile tomb. Dr. Aris Thorne, a man whose gaunt features and perpetually narrowed eyes seemed to absorb all light, gestured with a long, bone-white finger towards a holographic projection shimmering in the center of the chamber. It depicted a swirling nebula, a cosmic ballet of gas and dust, but Thorne’s commentary cut through the ethereal beauty with a chilling precision.

“You see this, Mr. Black?” Thorne’s voice, a low rasp, seemed to vibrate with an almost fanatical intensity. “This is the cradle of your transformation. Not a random anomaly, not a cosmic hiccup. This is the *Xylos Cluster*, a region of space that has been… interacting… with our little blue marble for millennia.”

Jack shifted his weight, the worn soles of his sneakers squeaking faintly on the polished floor. He’d come expecting explanations, perhaps even a sliver of understanding about the bewildering forces now at his command. But Thorne’s words felt less like clarity and more like a carefully constructed web. “Interacting? What does that even mean?”
