The air in the grand foyer hung thick and still, a palpable silence that pressed in on them, muffling even the frantic thumping of their own hearts. Gabe, his eyes wide, traced a symbol etched into the tarnished silver locket. It was a spiral, intricate and ancient, a motif he’d seen before, whispered about in hushed tones during his countless hours poring over local folklore books.

"This… this is the Mark of the Weaver," he breathed, his voice barely a tremor in the vast emptiness. "It’s an old symbol, meant to bind or protect. It's tied to the founding families of this region, especially those who dealt in... well, in things beyond the ordinary."

Thomas, ever the instigator, leaned closer, his initial bravado momentarily overshadowed by a flicker of genuine curiosity. "The Weaver? What does that mean?"
