Dust motes danced in the sparse shafts of moonlight that pierced the grimy, arched windows, illuminating a scene of mournful neglect. Cobwebs, thick as shrouds, draped the tarnished chandeliers and clung to the tattered velvet curtains. The air was heavy, not just with the musty scent of age, but with something else—a palpable stillness that pressed in on them, whispering of forgotten sorrows.

Thomas, ever the instigator, strode forward, his flashlight beam cutting a swathe through the gloom. "See? I told you this place was something else," he declared, his voice echoing unnervingly in the vast space. His excitement was a tangible thing, a vibrant counterpoint to the oppressive atmosphere.

Joe, trailing behind, scoffed, his brow furrowed with a familiar skepticism. "Something else, alright. Something else that smells like a century of neglect and questionable plumbing. I’m still not convinced this isn’t just a very elaborate, very dusty old house, Thomas." He adjusted his glasses, his gaze sweeping across the decaying opulence with a critical eye.
