The flickering beam of Thomas’s flashlight danced across the oppressive, peeling wallpaper, illuminating a scene of decay that seemed to mock their every step. Elara’s diary, its brittle pages clutched tight in Joe’s hand, lay open, revealing a spidery script that spoke of desperation and a desperate attempt to contain something ancient and hungry. Beside them, Al whimpered, his breath coming in ragged gasps, while Eric, ever the steady presence, kept a watchful eye on their surroundings, his hand resting lightly on the worn leather of his satchel. Gabe, meanwhile, was practically vibrating with a mixture of fear and morbid fascination, his eyes wide as he absorbed every creak and groan of the decaying manor.

“It’s all here,” Joe murmured, his voice tight with a tension that belied his usual skepticism. “The ritual. She tried to bind it, to lock it away. But it wasn’t… complete.” He tapped a passage with a trembling finger. “She writes about an anchor. Something to hold the ritual in place, to keep the entity tethered.”

Thomas leaned closer, his initial bravado tempered by the suffocating atmosphere. “An anchor? What kind of anchor?”
