Chapter 7
Chapter 7: The Spotlight Finds Its Mark
Kaito faces the fallout of his exposed power. Hikari demands answers, Ren tries to contain the situation, and the camp prepares to march to the front. Kaito's attempt to downplay his abilities backfires comically as his classmates react with disbelief. The chapter ends with the army's arrival at the front lines and a sudden demon attack that forces Kaito to make a choice about his role.
The silence that followed the demon attack was louder than any explosion. Kaito stood in the middle of the camp, the shattered collar at his feet, his hands still faintly glowing. Every pair of eyes in the perimeter was fixed on him.
Hikari took a step forward. Her face was pale, her divine power still flickering weakly around her like a dying candle. "Kaito," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "That was… you killed that demon with one hand. And the one that was about to kill me. And all the others."
He opened his mouth, but nothing came out. What was he supposed to say? 'Yes, I've been hiding this from you since day one'? 'I'm actually the strongest person here, but I really wanted to stay out of the spotlight'? That sounded ridiculous even inside his own head.
