Kaito struggles to maintain his cover during increasingly difficult drills, Ren's suspicion grows with each 'lucky' incident, and a new development forces the class to split into specialized teams, putting Kaito's desire for anonymity to the test.
The next morning arrived with the gray promise of rain. Kaito woke before the others, as had become his habit, and dressed in the simple training clothes provided by the imperial quartermaster. The fabric was coarse, the fit mediocre, and he appreciated both qualities—nothing about his appearance invited a second glance.
He slipped out of the dormitory while his classmates still groaned and stretched, hoping to find a quiet corner of the mess hall. No such luck.
Ren was already there, seated at a corner table with a cup of something steaming, his eyes fixed on the door as if he'd been waiting.
