The private jet, a silver needle stitching the sapphire sky, was my gilded cage. Below, the Alps, a jagged tapestry of white and grey, unfurled in silent, indifferent majesty. Each mile devoured by the roaring engines was a mile closer to the precipice of my ambition, yet terrifyingly, a mile further from the solid ground of certainty. The hum of the engines, once a lullaby of progress, now vibrated with an unsettling dissonance, a counterpoint to the frantic drumbeat of my own heart. Look to the forgotten architect." Forgotten architect. The words echoed, a phantom whisper in the sterile cabin. Dr. Aris Thorne. The name surfaced from the murky depths of my past, a figure shrouded in myth, a brilliant mind that had retreated from the world, leaving behind only whispers of his genius and his eccentricities. He’d been a mentor to my father, a man whose shadow I’d always felt, a man whose legacy I’d sought to emulate. Now, he was my only hope, a desperate gambit in a game I was rapidly losing.
