Chapter 14
The Family Fractures
The strain on the family becomes undeniable. Eleanor's actions cause significant rifts, impacting Arthur's ability to focus on his business.
The air in the Sterling household had become thick and heavy, not with the comforting scent of Eleanor’s signature lemon cake, but with an unspoken tension that coiled in the corners of every room. Arthur, once a man who strode through his days with an easy confidence, now found himself constantly glancing over his shoulder, his brow furrowed in a perpetual state of worry. The whispers of Sarah’s heartbreak had long since faded, replaced by the more immediate, and far more unsettling, murmurs emanating from within his own home.

You're so precious to me."
Arthur, preoccupied with the increasingly erratic behavior of his clients and the inexplicable dip in his company’s profits, initially dismissed it as a mother’s overzealous affection. He’d even found a strange sort of comfort in it, a reminder that amidst the professional chaos, there was still a semblance of warmth in his family. But the warmth had begun to feel like a suffocating heat.
