Mahnoor, cloaked in a dark, nondescript burqa, her face a mask of despair, ran through the deserted paths. Each drop of rain that struck her felt like a shard of ice, chilling her to the bone, yet doing little to quench the burning ache in her chest. She clutched the fabric of her veil, her knuckles white, her breath coming in ragged gasps. The familiar silhouette of the park, once a sanctuary of stolen moments and whispered promises, now loomed like a tomb. She had to see him, one last time.

Across the sodden expanse, Haseeb sat on their usual bench, the worn wood slick with rain. He was a solitary figure against the encroaching darkness, his shoulders hunched, the familiar shawl pulled tight around him, offering little protection against the elements or the gnawing emptiness inside. He had heard. The news of Mahnoor's wedding, a cruel pronouncement whispered on the wind, had found him, shattering the fragile peace he had tried to build since their last agonizing encounter. He had come here, to this hallowed ground of their stolen happiness, not in hope, but in resignation.
