The city exhaled a damp, metallic breath into the pre-dawn chill. Detective Miller, his ribs aching with a dull, insistent throb, leaned against the cold brick of an alleyway, the stench of stale urine and something far more sinister clinging to his clothes. He’d lost him. Again. The phantom, the predator who’d woven himself into the city’s dark underbelly, had slipped through his grasp like smoke. Zyir. The name echoed in the hollow spaces of Miller’s skull, a taunt, a promise of continued torment.

He’d seen the glint in Zyir’s eyes just before the man vanished into the labyrinthine alleys behind the docks – a manic, almost euphoric spark that spoke of something far beyond mere survival. It was the thrill of the hunt, the savage joy of the kill, and then… something else. The evidence, scattered and ephemeral, pointed to a pattern, a chillingly precise ritual. A string of disappearances, each victim a life lived on the fringes, easily overlooked, easily forgotten. Prostitutes, both male and female, plucked from the neon-drenched streets like ripe fruit, leaving behind only whispers and the growing unease that settled over the city like a shroud. Miller had pieced together the fragments, his mind a relentless engine churning through possibilities, discarding the mundane, searching for the impossible. And Zyir was the impossible.
