The air in the ruins was thick with the scent of damp earth and something else, something ancient and forgotten, like dust disturbed after centuries of sleep. Sunlight, thin and hesitant, filtered through cracks in the crumbling stone, painting shifting patterns on the moss-covered floor. Kaelen walked beside me, his shadow long and lean, a silent, watchful presence that no longer felt entirely threatening. It had been two days since we’d fled the palace, two days of navigating the treacherous borderlands, our every step a gamble. Now, we stood in a place whispered about in hushed tones even in Solaria’s most guarded libraries – the supposed birthplace of the Eclipse Bloodline.

I ran a gloved hand over a weathered stone pillar, the carvings beneath my fingertips worn smooth by time and countless hands. These weren’t the clean, precise lines of Solarian artistry, nor the stark, geometric designs of Luminis. These were wild, organic shapes, swirling and intertwining like vines, hinting at a power that predated our kingdoms, a power that flowed in my very veins.

“Do you feel it?” I asked, my voice barely a murmur, afraid to disturb the stillness.
