The comms channel crackled, a symphony of static and desperate pleas that had become the soundtrack to Hampton's nights. For weeks, the whispers had grown louder, the fear more palpable. OmniCorp, Silas Vance’s monolithic shadow, was tightening its grip, squeezing independent haulers like so many hapless asteroids caught in a gravity well. Route closures, exorbitant docking fees, "security inspections" that bled cargo dry – the tactics were crude, brutal, and effective. And Hampton, the disgraced admiral turned freighter captain, knew it was time to stop just enduring and start fighting.

He stood on the bridge of the *Ironmule*, the worn metal beneath his boots a familiar comfort. The holographic display flickered, showing a scatter of icons across the vast expanse of the Hyper Highways – individual haulers, small fleets, all isolated, all vulnerable. His crew, his family, watched him, their faces etched with a mixture of apprehension and unwavering trust.

"They're picking us off, one by one," Maya’s voice was quiet, but it carried the weight of the data she’d been sifting. "OmniCorp's buying up docking stations, rerouting traffic, even fabricating 'safety violations' to confiscate goods. They're creating a choke point, and they want to be the only ones breathing through it."
