The hum of the Ironmule was usually a comfort to Maya, a familiar thrumming beneath her feet that spoke of steady progress and the vast, star-dusted expanse of the Hyper Highways. But tonight, the hum felt…wrong. It vibrated not just through the deck plating, but deep within her bones, a discordant note in the otherwise predictable symphony of the ship. She traced a finger over the cool, metallic surface of her navigation console, her brow furrowed. The star charts were clean, the warp lane projections stable, yet an unsettling prickle crawled across her skin, like phantom static.

"Everything alright, Maya?" Briggs's gruff voice rumbled from the doorway of the bridge, his hands smudged with grease even hours after his last shift. He held a steaming mug, the aroma of strong, dark coffee a welcome, grounding scent.

Maya offered a weak smile, forcing the unease down. "Just a bit of a…feeling, Briggs. Like the ship's got a bad case of space-nerves."
