Lumina, her light still shimmering with the memory of Umbra’s protective darkness, felt a pang of sadness. The exhilarating chaos had subsided, and with it, the thrilling closeness she’d shared with her shadow companion. The quiet hum of the celestial sphere, once a source of boredom, now felt like a gentle nudge, a reminder of where she belonged.
“It’s time, isn’t it?” Lumina’s voice was soft, a mere whisper against the vast silence. She floated a little distance from Umbra, the space between them filled with unspoken feelings. Umbra, usually so fluid and quick, seemed to hover, their shadowy form rippling with a similar reluctance.
Umbra shifted, a swirl of deeper darkness coalescing. “The elders will be… concerned. And your family.” Their voice, a low murmur that vibrated with a gentle resonance, held a hint of the mischief that had first drawn Lumina in, but now it was laced with a newfound tenderness. “You’ve been gone a while, little star.”
