The air thrummed with a new kind of quiet, a stillness that settled not into emptiness, but into a vibrant hum. I was on a landing, a wide, circular space painted in swirls of emerald and sapphire, the light here soft, like the inside of a polished gemstone. Whisper, his fur a tapestry of moss and moonlight, sat before me, his whiskers twitching with a gentle wisdom. His eyes, like two drops of amber, held a depth that made my own feel shallow.

“You have seen, child,” he said, his voice a rustle of dry leaves. “The rooms are not just filled with objects, but with echoes. Each toy, each faded picture, a whisper of a moment you thought lost.”

I nodded, my gaze drifting to the walls. They pulsed with a soft luminescence, and for a fleeting second, I saw the ghost of a red ball bouncing, heard the faint, joyful squeal of a younger me. It was like looking through a kaleidoscope of my own life, all the bright, sharp pieces jumbled and beautiful.
