David and Elara journey to the cave at dawn, where David enters the pool of light and confronts the betrayer's shadow. Elara anchors him with her presence, and together they mend the first thread, discovering that the weave requires sacrifice, not destruction.
Dawn came cold and clear over the valley. The snow had crusted into a brittle shell that cracked underfoot as David stood on the porch, his breath clouding in the still air. Behind him, the cabin hummed with quiet activity—Kathleen stirring the fire, Kaelen sharpening his blade with a whetstone, Dianne spreading her map across the table. But David’s gaze was fixed on the mountain, on the cave he had fled the evening before.
Elara stepped out beside him, her boots silent on the wooden planks. She carried a small satchel slung over her shoulder, the leather worn and soft.
“You did not sleep,” she said.
