Elder Iancu, his faithful mentor, sat nearby, his weathered hands carefully mending a torn map of Wallachia. Though his eyesight had dimmed with age, his mind remained sharp, a repository of the kingdom’s history and Vlad’s reign. He watched Mihnea with a knowing gaze, recognizing the profound shift that had occurred within the young prince. The boy who had once sought to vindicate a legend now carried the weight of that legend with a somber understanding.
“The chronicles speak of your father’s ferocity, Mihnea,” Iancu said softly, his voice a low rumble that seemed to echo the ancient stones of the monastery. “They speak of the impalements, the fear he instilled. But they rarely speak of the man burdened by the weight of his land, the leader who saw no other path to preserve it.”
