The wind, once a boisterous adversary, now felt like a playful friend as Williyar circled the town square. He’d spent weeks practicing, guided by the Inventor’s cryptic advice and his own sheer determination. The clumsy flailing of his early flights had been replaced by a tentative grace, a smooth ascent and descent that still, on occasion, ended with a comical wobble or an undignified landing. But these were minor hiccups, easily brushed off with a sheepish grin and a quick adjustment of his wings. He felt a lightness in his chest, a nascent confidence that had been absent for so long.

Then, a shadow fell over him, a familiar, booming voice shattering the peaceful hum of his flight. “Well, well, look who’s decided to grace us with his presence again! Still tripping over your own feathers, Williyar?”

Williyar’s stomach did a familiar flip. It was Bartholomew, his rival, his nemesis, the embodiment of everything Williyar wasn’t: loud, brash, and impossibly skilled in the air. Bartholomew hovered a few yards away, his own wings – a magnificent, almost predatory spread of dark feathers – beating with effortless power. A smug grin stretched across his face, a grin that promised a challenge, a fight, a good old-fashioned aerial showdown.
