Chapter 7
Unveiling the Lenses
Anya delves deeper into her red lenses' power, seeing the city's hidden currents and the true nature of the Proton's Value. The ancient beads on her necklace begin to warm.
The city of Jurbarkas breathed in shadows and exhaled dust. Anya, however, saw more than just the grime. Through the crimson lenses that rested on her nose, the familiar decay of her world shimmered with an unexpected vibrancy. It was like looking at a hidden layer of reality, a secret language spoken by the very foundations of the city. Today, the lenses felt particularly alive, buzzing with a faint warmth against her skin, a sensation that mirrored the gentle thrumming of the ancient beads around her neck.
She was perched on a rusty girder, high above the labyrinthine network of pipes that snaked through Jurbarkas like metallic veins. Below, the city was a symphony of muted groans and clanks, the tired sighs of dying machinery. But through her lenses, Anya saw something else entirely. These were the currents, she realized, the hidden arteries of Jurbarkas. And some of them, she noted with a prickle of unease, were beginning to falter.
Her gaze drifted towards the hulking, monolithic structures that dominated the skyline – the headquarters of the Pentagon. Even from this distance, the building seemed to exude an aura of cold authority. Through her lenses, the Pentagon’s influence was a tangible thing, a web of invisible threads that seemed to bind the city, restricting its breath, muffling its cries. She could see the threads, some thick and suffocating, others thin and frayed, all radiating from the central edifice.
