The perpetual twilight of Jurbarkas pressed down, a grimy blanket woven from the exhaust of ancient engines and the dust of forgotten dreams. Yet, even in this choked sky, a single, unwavering point of light pierced the gloom. Anya, perched on a precarious ledge overlooking the grimy cityscape, tilted her head back, her red lenses glinting. It was Sirius. Always Sirius.

It wasn't just a star, not to Anya. While others saw only a distant spark, through her lenses, Sirius pulsed with a gentle, insistent glow, a celestial whisper in the cacophony of Jurbarkas. It felt like a secret shared, a promise whispered across the vast, indifferent void. The beads on her necklace, cool against her skin, seemed to hum in response to its distant radiance. They had always felt important, these ancient stones, imbued with a history far older than the rusted gears that now dominated her world. But Sirius… Sirius felt like a destination, a guiding hand reaching out from beyond the smog.

“It’s just a star, Anya,” a gruff voice startled her. It was Kael, his face smudged with grease, his usual cautious frown etched deeper than usual. He’d found her here again, her solitary vigil a familiar, if worrying, sight. “Don’t go chasing ghosts in the sky. We have enough trouble down here.”
