The hum of the city was a low, constant thrum, a mechanical heartbeat that had long since replaced the vibrant pulse of life. Anya, her red lenses catching the dim glow of the perpetually overcast sky, felt it resonate deep within her bones. It was the sound of decay, of systems sputtering and failing, a symphony of entropy conducted by the unseen hand of the Proton’s Value. But beneath that rasping rhythm, she sensed something else, a whisper of forgotten energy, a potential waiting to be reawakened.

Her friends, Kai and Lyra, huddled close, their faces etched with a mixture of apprehension and fierce determination. Kai, ever the pragmatist, fiddled with a piece of scavenged circuitry, his brow furrowed in concentration. Lyra, her usually bright eyes shadowed, clutched a worn satchel filled with carefully collected fragments of Jurbarkas's past.

“It’s getting worse, Anya,” Lyra murmured, her voice barely audible above the city’s drone. “The air… it feels heavier. And the nutrient paste rations are thinner than ever. People are starting to talk about the old ways again, the desperate ways.”
