The air in Silas’s chamber was thick with the scent of dust and dried blood, a perfume he’d cultivated over a lifetime. Lamplight, low and flickering, cast long, dancing shadows that stretched and writhed like specters. Around him, meticulously arranged, were the trophies of a life lived at the sharpest edge of existence: a shard of obsidian that hummed with captive starlight, the petrified eye of a creature that had once devoured moons, a single, impossibly delicate feather that shimmered with a spectrum of colors no natural light could replicate.

At the center of this silent testament lay Elias. His skin was the pallor of old parchment, his eyes forever closed, a faint, almost imperceptible smile frozen on his lips. Silas sat cross-legged on the floor, his scarred hands resting on his knees, the rough leather of his gloves a familiar comfort. The silence was profound, broken only by the rasp of Silas’s own breath and the distant, mournful wail of the city’s wind.

“They’ll be here at dawn, Elias,” Silas’s voice was a low rumble, devoid of inflection, as if speaking to himself. “The Council. And with them, the Vorak. Their fleet… it’s a stain on the sky, a promise of oblivion.” He traced a jagged scar that ran from his temple to his jaw, a pale line against his weathered skin. “They say I’m the best. The one they send when the impossible knocks. But ‘impossible’ feels… different when it’s not just a hunt, but an ending.”
