The air in the old study felt heavy, thick with the scent of aged paper and a lingering melancholy that Elara had come to associate with the house. Sunlight, usually a welcome visitor, seemed to struggle to penetrate the dusty panes, casting long, distorted shadows that danced like specters on the worn Persian rug.
