The neon sign of the “Last Chance Lounge” flickered, a dying ember against the bruised twilight sky. Inside, the air hung thick with stale smoke and the murmur of hushed conversations. This was Hollyhood’s domain, and in its grimy heart, her word was absolute. She sat at the bar, a silhouette cast in the lurid glow of the liquor bottles, her presence a palpable force that seemed to bend the very air around her. Her eyes, sharp as obsidian chips, swept over the room, missing nothing. A tremor of unease rippled through the patrons whenever those eyes landed on them, a silent acknowledgment of the power she wielded.

Tonight, the usual undercurrent of anxiety was amplified. Rumors, like stray cats, slunk through the shadows, their whispers detailing a recent “adjustment” – a rival crew, once bold enough to challenge her reign, now permanently retired from the streets. Body bags, the unspoken currency of their world, had been plentiful. Hollyhood didn't deal in pleasantries; she dealt in consequences, swift and unyielding. Her connections weren’t just people; they were arteries, pumping information and favors through the city’s dark veins, ensuring her grip remained tight.

A young man, barely old enough to shave, shifted nervously at the end of the bar. He clutched a crumpled envelope, his knuckles white. He’d been told to deliver it to Hollyhood, a message from someone who dared to test her patience. Fear, cold and clammy, coated his skin. He’d heard the stories, of course. Everyone had. They said she was a queen, a gangster, a force of nature. They said crossing her was a one-way ticket to oblivion. He swallowed hard, his gaze fixed on the woman who held his fate, and perhaps his life, in the balance. The silence stretched, punctuated only by the clinking of ice and the distant wail of a siren, a mournful song that seemed to echo the unspoken dread settling over Hollyhood’s territory.
