It wasn't just the usual buzz of productivity, the clatter of keyboards, or the murmur of hushed phone calls. It was something else, something charged and heavy, like the air before a storm. And lately, that storm seemed to be brewing around me, around *him*.
He’d called me into his office again, not for a project, not for a report, but just… for me. The door clicked shut behind me with a soft, definitive sound that always made my stomach clench. Sunlight streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air, and catching the sharp angles of his impeccably tailored suit. He was leaning back in his chair, a half-smile playing on his lips, his eyes, the colour of a stormy sea, fixed on me.
“Sophia,” he’d said, his voice a low rumble that seemed to vibrate through the plush carpet. “Come in, close the door.”
