Chapter 6
A Father Reappears
Ethan Blake, seeking to mend bridges after years of estrangement, finally reconnects with his father, Daniel. Daniel is a man shrouded in quiet reserve, his past a carefully guarded secret. He seems eager to embrace a new life, leaving behind the shadows that have long defined him. Ethan, hopeful yet wary, begins to build a tentative relationship with the father he barely knows. He's unaware that Daniel's quietude stems from a profound fear, a deep-seated guilt connected to the very case that is now consuming Ethan's team.

Ethan managed a smile, a genuine one this time. “I’m not that hungry, Dad. Just… happy to be here.” He meant it. The author in him, the one who dissected motivations and plotted narratives, had always churned with questions about this absent figure. Now, faced with the man himself, the questions were less about plot points and more about the silence, the shadows that clung to him like a second skin. “How are you settling in? The new apartment?”
