The storm had finally broken, leaving behind a bruised sky and a world washed clean. The air in Serena’s apartment tasted different now – lighter, thinner, carrying the faint scent of damp earth and the promise of sun. He was in the kitchen, the low hum of the coffee maker the only sound that broke the morning quiet. Serena watched him from the living room doorway, leaning against the frame.
