Chapter 15

Chapter 15

Elara and Kael infiltrate the Thornwood estate during the Collectors' gathering using forged catering credentials. They navigate the grounds and enter through the service wing, separating to cover more ground. Elara locates the basement study and observes Desmond Crane conducting private business. She spots Marcus Liddell—Nina's case facilitator—speaking with Crane, confirming his identity through his worn hands and careful demeanor. Elara photographs their interaction as evidence. Kael radios that security is shifting toward an unscheduled perimeter check, compressing their window. Before they can extract, Soren Marsh appears in the hallway, locking eyes briefly with Elara but making no move to raise alarm. The chapter ends with Crane announcing a move to the basement study for a private matter, forcing Elara and Kael to decide whether to follow or retreat.

This one meant he was running scenarios behind those dark eyes, mapping contingencies, preparing for the violence that lived coiled inside him like a second heartbeat.
