Chapter 1
Chapter 1
Ren and his friends Aiko, Kai, and Yumi explore a dark hallway in Shadow Bell Academy. They hear a mysterious voice, which they recognize as the Principal’s, although he disappeared four years ago. Ren is drawn to an old photograph of a child who looks just like him. The door slams shut, trapping him. The voice calls to Ren, urging him to go to the Bell Room to recover his memories, leaving Ren and his friends shaken and intrigued.
Ren’s footsteps echoed in the quiet hallway of Shadow Bell Academy. The walls stretched tall, covered with fading photographs and shadows that seemed to lean closer with each step. Aiko clung to his sleeve, her eyes darting from one corner to the next. She whispered, "Ren, are you sure we should be here?"
Ren didn’t answer. His mind buzzed with thoughts he couldn’t grasp. All he knew was that he had to see the old photographs again. There was something there—something important he’d forgotten.
Kai, with his hands in his pockets, walked a step behind. He glanced at the dusty frames. “I still think we should wait until morning,” Kai muttered, trying to sound calm. “Odd things always happen here at night.”
Yumi hugged her arms close to her chest. “I don’t like this place… it feels so wrong,” she said softly.
Suddenly, from the darkness behind them, a voice floated out, quiet but clear: "Ren... have you come back here again?"
Ren’s face changed. The others spun around, but the hallway was empty. Only darkness, thick and silent, pressed in around them.
Kai swallowed. “That voice… it was the Principal’s.”
Yumi’s voice trembled. “But… the Principal disappeared four years ago.”
Ren stood frozen, his gaze locked onto the photographs on the wall. He stepped forward, drawn closer as though guided by an invisible thread. One photograph showed a group of students. Another showed a school play. Then, there—it caught his breath—a picture of a small child, standing straight-backed, staring bravely at the camera. The child looked just like Ren.
He leaned in, searching the face in the photograph. Memories stirred, but only shadows danced in his mind.
Suddenly—
THAK!
The door slammed shut behind them. The sound boomed through the hallway.
Aiko jumped and screamed, “Ren!”
He turned around, heart pounding. The others rushed to the door, trying the handle. It wouldn’t budge.
From the other side, the voice called again, softer this time: “You still don’t remember anything…?”
Ren’s voice was barely more than a whisper. “Who are you?”
For a moment, there was only silence. Then the voice became clearer, echoing through the hallway. "Come to the Bell Room... then you'll remember everything."
Ren put his hand to the wall, steadying himself. He looked at his friends, their faces pale and wide-eyed.
Kai tried to sound brave, but his voice wobbled. "The Bell Room? Isn’t that the oldest room in the school?"
Aiko gripped Ren’s arm tighter. “I don’t want you to go alone!”
Ren’s eyes went back to the photograph. The child’s eyes seemed almost alive, full of questions, just like his own.
Yumi’s voice was a whisper. “What if it’s dangerous?”
Ren took a slow breath. He felt a pull, gentle but impossible to ignore. “I feel like I’ve been here before, but I can’t remember why. I have to find out.”
Outside, the wind rattled th windowpane. Inside, the frds huddled together, the mysteries of Shadow Bell Academyh swirling around them lsike shadows. And somewshere, in the deepest part of the schoosl, a bell waited to H again.
