The low hum of the device vibrated through the stone floor, a sound that was both mechanical and strangely alive. Hunter knelt beside it, his heart thudding against his ribs like a trapped bird. Beside him, Wagera’s breath hitched. The chamber, once filled with the eerie mystery of the shimmering shadow, now pulsed with a different kind of energy – the quiet, unnerving thrum of a secret revealed.

“It’s… it’s just a machine,” Wagera whispered, her voice barely audible above the hum. She reached out a tentative finger, then pulled it back, as if the intricate array of polished metal and glowing crystals might still bite.

Hunter nodded, his eyes tracing the complex patterns etched onto the device’s surface. “Not just any machine, though. Look.” He pointed to a series of lenses, perfectly aligned, and a small, almost invisible projector nestled within the contraption. “This is what made the shadow. It wasn’t real. It was… an illusion.”
